Only the most astute viewers of “La La Land” will notice a slight change to the final cut of a movie that many expect will be a formidable Oscar contender. That’s because Jasmine McGlade, the ex-wife of director Damien Chazelle, has quietly been given a last-minute executive producer credit on the upcoming musical.

The change was made to the final print and now appears in the end credits, according to multiple sources who attended “La La Land’s” glitzy Los Angeles premiere this week. McGlade has also added a new footnote on the biography of her personal website, explaining that she executive produced the picture. A source close to the studio says that the change was made because Chazelle wanted to acknowledge McGlade’s collaborations over the years.

The credit didn’t appear in the version of the film that played on the festival circuit, including Telluride and Toronto last fall, as well as its AFI Fest screening last month. It is highly unusual for a change like that to be made so close to a film’s theatrical release. An executive in the post-production industry said that a change of this nature can be costly. “La La Land” has received glowing reviews. It’s the story of an aspiring actress (Emma Stone) and a jazz musician (Ryan Gosling) who fall in love while trying to make it in Los Angeles.

McGlade’s  IMDB credits still don’t show her “La La Land” work, nor does the page for the film. However, McGlade’s IMDB page says that she was “a key figure in the development and production of Chazelle’s ‘Whiplash’ and the development of ‘La La Land.'” Similar language previously appeared on her personal website, but was later modified. McGlade produced “Guy and Madeline on a Park Bench,” Chazelle’s first feature, and received a “special thanks” in the credits for “Whiplash.” The two met while students at Harvard.
